This is the kind of dancing that I strive for. These two have such a wonderful dynamic, dancing to slower music. They mix faster movements with slower movements seamlessly creating anticipation throughout the dance.

Travel Opportunities:

If you're looking to meet more dancers and skyrocket your skills, there's no better way than to hop in the car and find a weekend workshop.

Lindy on the Rocks in Denver Co, July 30th-Aug 2nd. We may even have a group of dancers going to this. They have a long list of fantastic teachers and live bands.

Cowtown Jamborama in Omaha Nebraska, Sep10th-13th. Wichita always represents well here. Great teachers, amazing friends, and fantastic live bands. Can you say Paaaarrrtaaay?

Kansas City Stomp in Kansas City KS, Oct 16th-18th. This fantastic workshop weekend is only hours away. If you have never traveled for dance before, this is a great event to get your feet wet at. There will be a gaggle of familiar dancers there with you, great classes to take and hours upon hours of dancing to be had. Get ahold of Megan Pfeiffer if you want to say some cash and get in on the group rate.

Favorite music

This week's song is I'll Wait for You by another current artist, Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns.  If you want to buy this song, grab it on Band Camp.

Homework
Check out Mike and Laura dancing at Stompology. My favorite part is a move that starts around 2:10. The move only lasts a few seconds but it certainly got my attention and made me chuckle. The band that they are dancing to is The Careless Lovers. Check them out in my song of the week link.

This week's song is Black Coffee by The Careless Lovers. I just so happened to be feeling very similar to the character in this video this morning. Once I had my coffee, the whole day became much brighter. If you want to buy this song, grab it on Band Camp.

Here is another example of Swing Dancing done fantastically well in other parts of the world. Check out Hugo and Melanie in Amsterdam during Smokey Feet just last month. I love their personal style and how they expertly craft their movements to express the music.

This week's song is The Jive is Jumpin' by The Four Clefs. I love the vibraphone solo midway through. They have a lot of great music that you should add to your playlist.

Vintage Clips:

Not going to lie, I may have posted this before. Even if you have seen it, you should watch it again. Cab Calloway starts this off and then the amazing Nicholas Brothers come in. I swear that these guys must have rubber legs. On a deeper note, if you also watched the video above, you can see that personal style comes from solo dancing. The Nicholas Brothers inspire me. Perhaps I will track down a tap class soon.

Homework
Alice  Mei and Thomas Blacharz are full of style. I love how they make their dancing musical by taking basic moves and speed them up, slow them down, get lower, or adding in a jump to communicate musicality. If you want to get on a fast track to adding style to moves that you already know, join us at 6:30 for our Breaking Out of Basics class taught by Evan and Megan.  Fun fact: this clip is from a swing festival in Moscow. I love how classic jazz has reached all around the world.
