Wichita Swing Dance Weekly

This Month's Classes: West Coast Styling for Lindy Hop. Taught primarily by John and Megan  Intro to Swing       7:30-8:00 Taught by a lovely variety of teachers.  There will be additional teachers substituting. Next Month's Classes: Charleston Upcoming Events: August 30th is the birthday jam and SOUL NIGHT!!!  September 6th is Dance Card Sunday. September 27th is the birthday jam and 1920's flashback.   Extra Extra! We want to hear what you think. If you have an idea let us know. Got a concern on your mind, lay it on us. We want your experience to be fun and worry free. Homework If you want to see where Lindy Hop is going in the next year, check out the International Lindy Hop Championships. It is where lovers of dance all over the world go to compete against each other. Here, Todd Yannacone and Laura Glaess give you a solid groove with a good mix of complex moves and current dance styles sprinkled in. If you want to learn some similar moves, the whole month of August WSDS will offer West Coast styling for Lindy Hop. Which is a drop in class at 6:30. So as long as you have taken the beginning Lindy Hop class, you may join us. Drop in is $6 for nonmembers and $8 for the 6:30 class. Travel Opportunities: If you're looking to meet more dancers and skyrocket your skills, there's no better way than to hop in the car and find a weekend workshop.     Cowtown Jamborama in Omaha Nebraska, Sep10th-13th. Wichita always represents well here. Great teachers, amazing friends, and fantastic live bands. Can you say Paaaarrrtaaay? Southern Fried Swing  is in Fort Smith Arkansas, September 24th-27th. The hospitality in this town in wonderful. Not only will you make new friends, but you will have a great time dancing all weekend. Sundance Swing Out  is in Ft. Worth TX October 9th-11th. The instructor lineup looks great and I hear there event is a blast. Sweeping Swing  is in Tulsa OK October 16th-18th featuring instructors Micheal Bradford, Dee Locke, Daniel Moore and Michelle Stokes.  Favorite music This week's song is a seriously fantastic cover of Poison by Post Modern Jukebox featuring Shoshana Bean. Homework Todd Yannacone and Ramona Staffeld are always a solid bet when searching for inspirational videos to take dance moves from. I love all of the nontraditional ways that Todd turns Ramona. If you want to learn some similar moves, the whole month of August WSDS will offer West Coast styling for Lindy Hop, which is a drop in class at 6:30. So as long as you have taken the beginning Lindy Hop class, you may join us. Drop in is $6 for nonmembers and $8 for the 6:30 class. I am the first to admit that I have ALWAYS loved this video. Every time I hear this song THIS video comes to mind. You will have a laugh. Homework If you, like me,  love all forms of dancing under the swing umbrella, you should check out Boston Tea Party Here is one of my favorite compitions to watch. The premis is that Lindyhoppers are matched with West Coast dancers and they each have a song in their own style. They often take their dance to an almost comic level. The whole month of August WSDS will offer Wes Coast stylings for Lindy Hop. Which is a drop in class at 6:30. So as long as you have taken the beginning Lindy Hop class, you may join us. Since we have 5 Sundays this month, the pricing is a little different.  If you are a member and pay for the whole month in advance you pay $25 nonmembers are $35. Drop in is still $6 for nonmembers and $8 for the 6:30 class. Now enjoy Nina and Ben winning the 2013 competition. They are both so comfortable in each dance that they can be really playful.
