There is an exciting change taking place in the WSDS next month. We are making some improvements to the Sunday night class format. We think these changes will make everyone even happier with the Swingin' Sunday experience. In a nutshell, what we're going to do is present a wider variety of material to our new dancers, and a more nuanced experience for our intermediate and advanced students. To learn the details behind the plan, read on! As you know, our current class format features two hour-long monthly series classes that run from 6:30-7:30, and the drop-in intro to swing class from 7:30-8:00. None of that basic structure is changing, however some of the class content IS. For a couple of years now, we've been offering Beginning Lindy Hop every month, with a rotating cast of intermediate classes in the back room. There are many advantages to this format, the greatest of which is the fantastic generation of new Lindy Hoppers that has grown out of the Beginning class. However, we want to offer today's new dancers more options. Starting in August, the BEGINNING lesson will be the home of our rotating cast of Swing styles, and the Intermediate class will be more constant. Beginner classes will now include months of Charleston, Balboa, Blues, Collegiate Shag, and our old favorite, Lindy Hop. In previous years, new dancers would have to take at least one month of Lindy Hop before trying any of those other styles, but that won't be the case anymore. As always, however, the Beginner classes will be designed to build knowledge over the whole month, so we will advice students to enroll for a month where they can attend every week. The Intermediate class will now be a more accurate representation of what social Swing dancing is really like. Each month will feature a wide variety of material and may include more than one dance style. There will be lessons in technique, new moves, variations, and musicality, all within a context a bit broader than a single style of Swing. Intermediate and advanced dancers, you're going to love it! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us and we'll be happy to answer them. And don't forget to sign up for August classes tonight! It'll be your last chance to try Beginning Lindy Hop for a while, so if you're new, get on it. And for all our experienced dancers, sign up for the new Intermediate Experience before you get left behind! | Outdoor Dance in Old Town This Wednesday We will be in the Warren Square in Old Town this Wednesday, July 30th, from 8-10. Come on out to enjoy some DJed tunes provided by WSDS Vice President Megan Pfieffer. Show off your dancing skills to the passers by! (And trust us, the passers by are easily impressed.) | | Ambassador of Swing T-Shirts Ordered Thank you to everyone who ordered an "Ask Me to Dance" shirt. They are officially on their way! The t-shirts should arrive by August 1st. With any luck, they'll be early and we can wear them to the dance in Old Town on July 30th! If you haven't ordered a t-shirt, and would like to, it's not too late. Contact WSDS Vice President Megan Pfieffer to place your order. Wearing the t-shirt lets people know you WANT to dance with them, so they don't have to feel shy about asking you on a Sunday night. Wearing it out around town shows the public that you, yes YOU know how to Swing dance in Wichita, and invites them to ask you how they can get involved. We'd love to see this t-shirt become the new black. We're charging $20 per shirt, which is what we need to pay for getting them printed. This isn't a profit-generating sale.
