Take a gander at these fine folk! .   Favorite music This week's song is Heavy Sugar by Lucky Millinder. If you are new to Lindy Hop, he is a great artist to practice to. His songs have a great slower rhythm with a big bounce. I have been dancing for over a decade and I still love dancing to his music.  Meet ups: So much style and personality with these two! There are many moves to steal.  The dancers are William Mauvais and Maeva Truntzer. They are from the South of France. Check out their website , they have a lot of fun videos. Nevermore Jazz Ball in St Louis, MO November 6-9 Austin Lindy Exchange in Austin, TX, November 21-23 Homework Watch this and try and steal a move or two. The dancers, Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg really capture the intricate pieces of the music with this dance. Not only are the dance moves killer, they counter that with a laid back attitude that comes across as efforless. This dance pairing has many a good dance routine on youtube. I suggest you grab a bite to eat and spend a few minutes or hours checking them out. Favorite music This week's  song is More Days Like This by Seth Walker. It just so happens that Seth Walker has a show in Wichita at the Zoo on Friday that you all can go to.  Doors open at 6:00, concert starts at 6:30. $12 in advance and $15 at the door. A great price for his soulful music. More details can be found here . Vintage Clips:  Check out this clip from Stormy Weather  with the Nicholas Brothers defyling gravity at times with their splits. I was laughing out loud by the end of it, in pure awe of what their bodies can do. Looks like I have another movie to add to my Netflix Que.   Extra Extra, read all about it! We are having a contest. Hello fellow dancers, I am excited to be your new president. Over a decade ago, I took my first dance class which sparked my insatiable passion for dance. Upon finding the Wichita Swing Dance Society, I discovered a welcoming community to  share experiences with. My hope during my presidency is to grow and strengthen our community. Ideas are abound and your helpis desired. Stay tuned for events and programs that you can participate in outside of our beloved Sunday night swing. Meet your new board members! I love this song because it is so playful. Not only are the lyrics silly, but the musicians have a joyful air about them. This all lends to inspiring dances. For fun, try dancing to just the lyrics, the trumpet, or the piano. You will find that you move differently when you do. Don't be afraid to be silly, after all, dancing is fun right!  Meet ups: Dancing Around Town:  The Wright Brothers Wednesday Oct 15th 6-9pm Stay tuned to Facebook for impromptu meetups. Homework: Watch this and try and steal a move or two. The dancers, Sharon Davis and Juan Villafane show an abundance of musicality, which may have been born while being silly while dancing. A handful of us recently took classes from the lovely Sharon Davis last month. Maybe you will see some of her material in the coming months if you sign up for classes.  Lastly, if you really liked the music, check out Ella Fitzgerald , she will not disappoint.  Vintage Clips:  Check out this clip with pictures and video from the original Savoy! You have Frankie Manning to thank for breathing life into Lindy Hop. I love the relationship between the dancers and the musicians. Dancing to live music will add another level of enjoyment to your experience.  Thank You Chelsea! I am ever so thankful that Chelsea stepped up to the presidency last year. We had our most successful Sunflower Swing to date, changed our class structuring, branched out to have more community dances, and even had more Soul Nights than usual.  I will be looking to you for continued ideas and inspirations.     Megan Pfeiffer See you next week!
