Wichita Swing Dance Weekly

This Month's Classes: B egging Lindy Hop 6:30-7:30 Taught by a lovely variety of teachers. Intermediate Lindy Hop 6:30-7:30 Taught by Nick and Chelsea Intro to Swing  7:30-8:00 Taught by Brandon and Ava There will be additional teachers substituting. Next Month's Classes: Group Solo Choreography 6:30-7:30 Beginning Lindy Hop 6:30-7:30 Intro To Swing 7:30-8:00 Upcoming Events: We will have our December Birthday Jam on Sunday, December 28th. If your birthday is in December, don't miss it!   Homework Laura, Mike, and Faulty demonstrate solo choreography done in a group. So many fun moves to  lift and try out. This piece is high energy, we are offering an easier solo group choreography in January. All of the moves that you learn in this class can be added to your partner dancing. All skill levels are encouraged to take this class. Sign up for these 6:30 series classes at the front desk.   Travel Opportunities: If you're looking to meet more dancers and skyrocket your skills, there's no better way to do it than by traveling to some regional events!  Rock Chalk Swing in Lawrence KS, Feb 27-March 1st.  I will be selling this one hard. They have great instructors and it is sooooo close. I saw that we caravan up there! Favorite music This week's song is I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm by The Mills Brothers. They have been featured in many movies and are a standard for our Sunday night dances.   This month's music brought to you by... 12/7- Chelsea 1214- Sonya/Megan 12/21- Evan 12/28- Megan Dancing Around Town Jan. 3rd- Loft 150. The Watchers 9-1:00 Stay tuned to Facebook for impromptu meetups. Vintage Clips:  The Mills Brothers are the featured singers in this clip. Solo dance has always been a part of swing dance. This group has a lot of fun with it. I even came across to the same clip set to different music, giving the mood more of a breakdancing feel.   Spend your Valentines Day with the some of your favorite local dancers. There will be a vintage variety show, followed by a dance. We have tickets for sale, ask Chelsea for more information.

We will have our regular classes and a couple of special performances..  Homework Todd Yannacone and Pamela Gaizutyte start off this piece with some beginning Lindy Hop moves. Moves that you can learn in January in our beginning Lindy Hop class. Todd and Pamela then flow into a delightful composition of intermediate and advanced moves. I adore Pamela's personal styling choices. You can tell that she has done a fair amount of solo dancing because she is comfortable adding fun little steps into her partnered dancing. If you have already taken the beginning Lindy Hop class a time or two, January also offers a class that will teach you a solo choreography in a group setting. All of the moves that you learn in this class can be added to your partner dancing. All skill levels are encouraged to take this class. Swinging Christmas tunes just feels right at this time of year. I have already noticed three moves in this clip that are in the solo choreography class offered in January.  Now, if you are anything like me, you will spend the next hour going down the youtube rabbit hole of Gene Kelly and Judy Garland.  Enjoy.    If you enjoyed this clip, and would like to spend your Valentines Day gazing upon a Vintage Swing Variety show, you are in luck! Their moves are ripe for the licking and fit the music so well.
