Wichita Swing Dance Society

Hello dancers!  Tomorrow marks the start of October and we have such a collection of great dance events coming up it's spooky!  Check out what to look forward to, and mark you calendars accordingly....
 
THIS WEEK
Saturday is a dance workshop!  The Lindy Bombers are giving you another chance to get your learning on for a low price!  It's at Harry's, and runs from 10 AM to 1 PM, here's the lineup:
 
10 AM - Shim Sham - Here's a chance to learn a line dance we do every week!  So come check it out and join in the fun, all levels welcome!
 
11 AM - Moves Guaranteed to Move You - Some entirely new moves to add to your dancing and challenge you!  Comfort with a swingout encouraged.
 
Noon - Follower FUNdamentals - A class aimed at the ladies but with plenty of solid information for the leads as well.  A definite must attend for any ladies wishing to improve their dancing.  All levels welcome.
 
Classes are only $6 each or an amazingly low $15 for all 3!  This is a fundraiser for the Lindy Bombers, so please support dance in your community!
 
 
Sunday is dance card Sunday!  Come out for fun dancing, new classes, and door prizes!
 
 
Tuesday is Lindy Hop Tuesdays at Old Town Ballroom!  Class at 7:30, dance at 8:30!  Class is $5, dance is $6, get both for only $9!
 
 
BIG EVENTS
October 17th is SOUL NIGHT!  A full evening of music from Motown and singles from STAX.  Don't miss a chance to come out and get down.
 
October 31st isn't just Halloween....it's our Halloween party!  Details coming, but count on a special performance of the Thriller dance!
 
WORKSHOPS
October 30th Oscar and Ashley are hosting a Total Body Movement workshop at Old Town Ballroom.  From 11-4 these classes will get you moving and using your body in a whole new way.  Open to all levels and guaranteed to challenge all comers, classes are $10 each or $30 for all 4.  Check out the attached flyer!
 
SUNDAY CLASSES
In October things are going to get scary.... scary fun!  We're bringing back the Thriller routine and will be performing it at the Halloween party!
Upstairs
6:30 - 7:15     Single Time East Coast Swing
7:15 - 8:00     Beginning Lindy Hop
Downstairs
6:30 - 7:15     Intermediate Lindy Hop
7:15 - 8:00     Thriller
 
OTHER CLASSES
Monday nights - Lindy Bombers classes run every week at Morningstar Community Church!  Dedicated to improving your Lindy Hop, we have beginner and intermediate classes at 7:30 PM, and a rotating taster class at 8:30 PM.  This month is blues!  Cost is $5 per night or $10 per month.  Check out www.lindybombers.com for more details!
 
Tuesday nights - Lindy Hop Tuesdays!  Old Town Ballroom plays host to Lindy Hop classes every week at 7:30 PM.  One hour of precious knowledge is only $5
 
Wednesday nights - 8 PM is the "Swing Grab Bag" class at Old Town Ballroom.  Could be dips, could be flashy moves, could be a chicken sandwich, you'll have to show up to find out....

OTHER DANCES
October 16th - We've been invited to a wedding!  Angela and Tom are having a swing themed wedding reception at the Crown Uptown Theater starting at 7 PM.  Cool Blue will be playing and they are decking the place out for a vintage feel.  They want us to come dance!  So please help them celebrate, but do dress the part!
 
October 19th - Lindy Hop Tuesdays at OTB are throwing a dance!  Running from 8:30 - 11:00 PM you can get in for just $6, or get the class that night and the dance for only $9!
 
That's all for now, your board is meeting soon, so expect a whole lot more in the coming weeks.  We have a whole lot of dancing to do before it's 2011!
