It's a bit of a light news day, but don't let that keep you from getting excited! Tonight promises to be a great night at Swingin' Sunday, complete with Beginning and Intermediate classes kicking off at 6:30 (there's still time to register for the May classes! Get it!). At 7:30 we'll have our usual intro to Swing class, followed by DJed music from 8-10. At an undisclosed time in that last window, we'll be hosting our first ever May the Fourth be With You competition. Sund intriguing? Stick around to see and participate! It's going to be a great time! Dance Night at Wright Brothers Bar May 21 Don't miss out on this chance to dance! WSDS DJ extraordinaire Evan Borst will be spinning tunes from 6:00-9:00pm tonight at the Wright Brothers Bar, 6518 W Kellogg. Please purchase a beverage to support this venue. Buying food supports the hotel next door, but money for drinks (alcoholic or not) goes straight to the bar, who hosts us. This event is for dancers 21 years of age and older. Good to know: Any time a WSDS member brings a new dancer to Swingin' Sunday for the first time, both people get in for half price! That's a grand total of $5 for two people. You won't find a better deal than taht anywhere. We Need YOU: The WSDS is looking for volunteers to help us manage Sunday nights! If you've been dancing with us for a while, and would like a chance to give something back to the scene, please email us and let us know! We will really appreciate your help. There might even be a hug in it for you. More Swing Dancing in Wichita: If you want to take your swing dancing to the next level, check out the Lindy Bombers! This local dance club has been meeting every Monday evening for years, working on swing dance vocabulary, technique, and musicality. The Lindy Bombers can also put you in touch with the Shiny Stockings and Five Moes Named Guy, Wichita's solo-jazz troupes. And, if you're REALLY motivated, the Lindy Bombers are also your gateway to Hot Rhythm Revival, Wichita's competitive swing dancing team. There are lots of options out there, come check them out! The weekend packed enough fun, exhilaration, competition, enlightenment, and comradery that it pushed this week's newsletter back TWO DAYS! If you were a part of the event, THANK YOU! The event organizers can proudly declare this year our MOST successful Sunflower Swing, in large part due to great attendance by local dancers. Additional thanks to go our many volunteers and hosts. You guys rock! SUNFLOWER SWING in WICHITA,  April 25-27 Greenwood Swingout in Tulsa, OK, May 15-19 Dallas Lindy Workshop in Dallas, TX, June 30-May 1 KC Stomp in Kansas City, MO, July 11-13 The Funny Section: Solo Charleston: First Attempt Slow Jamz TONIGHT It's the last Sunday before Sunflower, but we're not letting that stop us from having some extra fun! Tonight's playlist will make a dramatic shift around 9pm to some nice, slow grooves for students to try out the Blues they've been learning this month. Stick around and get in the groove yourself! SUNFLOWER SWING IS IN ONE WEEK! Local Dancers Model This Year's Event T-shirt Let the final countdown BEGIN! Sunflower Swing will begin in a mere FIVE DAYS with our Friday night dance, at 8pm in our usual location. The Friday night dance will include demos from our instructors, a Jack & Jill competition featuring many of our out-of-town guests, a new performance routine from the Shiny Stockings, and a Strictly BATTLE competition during late night. Dancing begins at 11am on Saturday, when we'll all meet up at the Warren Square downtown for an outdoor social dance. Elective classes will then run from 2-4pm at Care to dance. Saturday night, we'll hit the dance floor again at 8pm, with breaks for Wichita's legendary 60 Second Showdown, Jungle Madness, and the Chicken Sandwich competition! On Sunday, classes will run from 10:30am-3:30pm (with a lunch break), and of course we'll be dancing Sunday night as usual! If you haven't registered, and you now find yourself wishing you had, DO IT! It's not too late! You can also visit the event website to check out a la carte pricing if you just want to come to a dance or two. Good to know: We are still looking for HOSTS and VOLUNTEERS for Sunflower Swing!
