Swung Over

To all of you who are still recovering from the UNMITIGATED AWESOME that was Sunflower Swing: I feel you. The weekend packed enough fun, exhilaration, competition, enlightenment, and comradery that it pushed this week's newsletter back TWO DAYS!

If you were a part of the event, THANK YOU! The event organizers can proudly declare this year our MOST successful Sunflower Swing, in large part due to great attendance by local dancers. Additional thanks to go our many volunteers and hosts. You guys rock!

If, like me, you are desperate to relive the event as you transition back to your "real life," take solace in the Facebook albums for

Friday Night's Dance
and
Sunday Night's Dance

And feast your eyes on the videos of

Competitions
60 Second Showdown
Special Project
Performances

That'll have to keep you going until next year.

May the Fourth be With You (and other things)

Make sure you show up for the first Swingin' Sunday this month, because we have a fun new competition to try: May the Fourth be With you. Get it? May the 4th? SUNDAY, May the Fourth? Ok, that's all the hints you get!

We'll also have our usual week night dances starting TWO DAYS FROM NOW with Dance Night at Spangles. On the 21st, we'll have Dance Night at the Wright Brothers. Come on out, get some food and drinks, and get your dance on!

Good to know:

Any time a WSDS member brings a new dancer to Swingin' Sunday for the first time, both people get in for half price! That's a grand total of $5 for two people. You won't find a better deal than that anywhere.

We Need YOU:

The WSDS is looking for volunteers to help us manage Sunday nights! If you've been dancing with us for a while, and would like a chance to give something back to the scene, please email us and let us know! We will really appreciate your help. There might even be a hug in it for you.

More Swing Dancing in Wichita:

If you want to take your swing dancing to the next level, check out the Lindy Bombers! This local dance club has been meeting every Monday evening for years, working on swing dance vocabulary, technique, and musicality. The Lindy Bombers can also put you in touch with the Shiny Stockings and Five Moes Named Guy, Wichita's solo-jazz troupes. And, if you're REALLY motivated, the Lindy Bombers are also your gateway to Hot Rhythm Revival, Wichita's competitive swing dancing team. There are lots of options out there, come check them out!

Video of the Week:

Let's admire our Sunflower Swing Instructors one more time in this video from the event.

See you next week!
