I have to kick off this week's news with a recap of our Solo Jazz contest from last Sunday because, frankly, it was great! We had six contestants, including three veteran competitors and three daring first timers. Everyone represented themselves well and put on a great show. February Events and Opportunities January is almost over, and February promises to be a fun month of dancing! Mark your calendars now: Feb 2nd* - Dance Card Sunday. Complete a dance card by having 8 different partners initial one for you, then drop it in the hat (bucket, jar, whatever we have this time) for a chance to win prizes! Feb 16th - Celebrate Valentine's Day late by dressing up for Classy Dress Night! Feb 19th - Dance Night at the Wright Bros Feb 23rd - Strictly Lindy Competition, Birthday Jam for Februrary babies.   *Yes, we will be open Super Bowl Sunday. We will not have series classes, however. Sunflower Swing Update This year will see the return of the 60 Second Showdown, an original competition format from Wichita! Teams of 4 or more people are encouraged to choreograph 60 seconds of material and throw down for the most crowd-pleasing performance. Who can forget last year's DFDubstep performance? (OK, so maybe YOU forgot. Here's a video: Head on over to the registration page on sunflowerswing.com and get your weekend pass. Keep in mind that the price will continue to go up as the event approaches!  You can also register at the front desk on any Sunday between now and the event. Sunflower Swing will be happening RIGHT HERE IN WICHITA from Friday, April 25 - Sunday, April 27, 2014. We will bring in instructors Laura Glaess and Mike Roberts from Texas, and Shauna Marble and Mark Godwin from Colorado. They'll be here for THREE dances and TWO FULL DAYS of workshops. You don't want to miss it!       Good to know: Planning to register for Sunflower Swing? You can register for a reduced price is you volunteer during the event.  Email us for details! We Need YOU: The WSDS is looking for volunteers to help us manage Sunday nights! If you've been dancing with us for a while, and would like a chance to give something back to the scene, please email us and let us know! We will really appreciate your help. This local dance club has been meeting every Monday evening for years, working on swing dance vocabulary, technique, and musicality.
