Hi-de-ho dancers! 

 

We have a weekend full of dancing for you.  What a fantastic way to start off the holiday season!

 

Saturday, December 3^rd is a workshop featuring Balboa dancing from 2-4 pm at Harry Reese Dance Studio. Balboa is a fast dance that won't leave you breathing hard! Focusing on fun footwork you'll love integrating this into your normal dance repertoire.  All levels are welcome no partner is required.

 

Sunday, December 4^th Goodwill Industries has asked us to share our gift of dancing at their annual fundraiser Festival of Trees at Century II from 1-2 pm. Admission is free for dancers and a guest.  Additional guests cost $5.  Enter at the northeast side of the building; it has a Festival of Trees banner.  Inform those taking tickets you are a performer with the Wichita Swing Dance Society.  Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check-in upstairs in the balcony.

 

Sunday, December 4^th is our Christmas Party.  

6:30 – 7 pm - Beginning East Coast Swing

7-10 pm – Dancing

 

You are encouraged to dress up and bring snacks to share.  As a gift to our members the event is free.  It is $10 for non-members.  

 

Providing music is Nouveau Quintette. In addition to 3 hours of live music the evening will feature performances by Shiny Stockings and Hot Rhythm Revival. 

 

During the evening there will be a silent auction.  Please bring money for bidding.  The fundraiser is to make Sunflower Swing a better event.  We currently have donations of dance lessons from several instructors, a set of Blues Ball tickets, jewelry, handcrafted clocks, wine, and handmade hats, scarfs, bags and various desserts.  We are accepting donations for the auction and appreciate your participation at the event.

Hello dancers! 

 

Happy Thanksgiving!  After the holiday, shopping and football, I trust you are ready to dance. Sunday is our Birthday jam.  Come and celebrate the November birthday babies.

Hello dancers! 

 

Thank you to those who attended and supported the Central Prairie Honor Flight.  Congratulate our very own Shirley Hess and Isaiah Johnson for winning the dance competition.  A special thank you to Ronnie Choy and all of those who made our Sock Hop a success.

 

Our Christmas Party is just a few weeks away.  As a gift to our members the event is free.  For non-members it will cost $10 to enter.  You are encouraged to dress up and bring snacks to share.  The special guest will be Nouveau Quintette playing for us from 7-10 pm.  We will have a silent auction during the evening.  The funds are for Sunflower Swing, to build a better event.  We currently have donations of dance lessons from several instructors, a set of Blues Ball tickets, jewelry, handcrafted clock, wine, and handmade hats, scarfs, pillows and various desserts.  Perhaps this has sparked your interest to donate to our cause.  We appreciate your participation with a donation and your preparation to bid at the event.

WSDS Weekly 11/10/11

Hello dancers! 

 

There are several dance opportunities this weekend to share.  First, Saturday we are proud sponsors of the Central Prairie Honor Flight at Jabara Airport.  The schedule of event is as follows; from 4-5 pm WSDS will provide free dance instruction.  A catered dinner starts at 5 pm for $15 (volunteer price).  The dance contest begins at 7pm and costs $25 to enter. There is over $500 of cash and prizes for participants.  General dancing will open after the contest.

 

Second, Sunday is our annual Sock Hop.  Our good friend Ronnie Choy will be spinning tunes to help us celebrate.  Dance the night away to 50's and 60's music.  We would love to see your poodle skirts, bobby socks and leather jackets for this wicked cool event. 

 

There will be a silent auction during the Christmas Party.  This fundraiser is for Sunflower Swing, to build a better event.  Please respond to this email or contact a board member if you are interested in donating anything.  No donation is too small and all are appreciated!

WSDS Weekly 11/3/11

Hello dancers! 

 

Thank you to everyone who made the Halloween Party a great event.  Hopefully, pictures of the party will be posted on Facebook within the next couple of weeks.  Don't forget it is Dance Card Sunday.

 

We are proud sponsors of the Central Prairie Honor Flight.  We are losing an estimated 1,600 World War II veterans a day. The "Honor Flights" Volunteers help WW2 Vets see the memorial in Washington D.C. On November 12th Jabara Airport will host a dinner/dance fundraiser. The Swing Dance Contest has cash prizes of $500.  Flyers for CPHF and Dance Contest are at the front table. 

 

November 13^th is our annual Sock Hop. To help us celebrate in style we have the Dance Man Ronnie Choy.  Dust off your poodle skirt and bobby socks for this wicked cool event.

Hello dancers! 

 

This week will be a scary good time with the Halloween Party.  Dress up and receive a dollar off the evening entrance fee.   There will be prizes for the best costumes.  This week we will also have our membership meeting at 6:30pm in the basement.

 

I wanted to let you know about our upcoming classes for the next few months so you can plan to attend.  To try to eliminate confusion I included the fee schedule for the classes.

Series Classes cost $20 for members and $30 non-members for the month. It is a progressive class designed to continue to build on the previous weeks instruction.  You pay only once for the series class and it includes the drop-in class at 7:30 and the dance for the entire month. 

 

6:30 Drop-in Classes cost $5 for members and $7 for non-members.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  Only an extra dollar an evening, which includes the 7:30 drop-in class and dance.

 

7:30 Drop-in Class costs $4 for members and $6 for non-members and includes the dance.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
