TONIGHT: Same-Gender Dance Competition

Good morning dancers! Did you miss your chance to compete in last month's Strictly Competition? Well you're in luck, tonight you have a new chance to show off your best moves with your best partner - as long as the two of you are the same gender! That's right, tonight's competition is the perfect opportunity for all you lady leaders and fellow followers!

Don't be shy; this competition format is nothing to be afraid of! National and international events have long incorporated a same-gender competition category, some of which have seen local dancers compete!

Sign up at the front desk tonight, and remember to have fun with it!

Dancing this Month

As you may have noticed, there is a flyer on the front desk each Sunday with a list of all the upcoming chances to dance in Wichita. WSDS Public Relations officer Dave Krofssik is the one you can thank for keeping these current (I hear he likes to be thanked by being asked to dance), and I'm going to start including his flyers in the weekly for those of you who might have forgotten to pick one up. Click the flyer for a bigger version:flyer

Good to know:

Planning to register for Sunflower Swing? You can register for a reduced price is you volunteer during the event.  Email us for details!

We Need YOU:

The WSDS is looking for volunteers to help us manage Sunday nights! If you've been dancing with us for a while, and would like a chance to give something back to the scene, please email us and let us know! We will really appreciate your help. There might even be a hug in it for you.

More Swing Dancing in Wichita:

If you want to take your swing dancing to the next level, check out the Lindy Bombers! This local dance club has been meeting every Monday evening for years, working on swing dance vocabulary, technique, and musicality. The Lindy Bombers can also put you in touch with the Shiny Stockings and Five Moes Named Guy, Wichita's solo-jazz troupes. And, if you're REALLY motivated, the Lindy Bombers are also your gateway to Hot Rhythm Revival, Wichita's competitive swing dancing team. There are lots of options out there, come check them out!

Video of the Week:

I'm still re-living the Heartland Swing Festival via YouTube. One of my favorite competitions to watch this year was the Showcase - that's where you and a partner get to choreograph a routine and perform it. Here's a  video of one of my favorite showcases from this year. Sadly, it's the only one to make it onto the internet yet.

See you next week!
