Hello dancers!  We had a great turnout again last week, you are all maximizing your chances to dance while the calendar still reads 2010.  But I want to remind you that there is one more chance to dance in 2010, as well as a great chance to dance in 2011 in style.

 

We are having our New Year's Eve party tomorrow!  There'll be dancing from 9 PM - 1 AM and a delicious New Year's Eve breakfast.  We are at the studio, so come on down and don't miss out on the fun.  Cost at the door is $15.  Get dressed up however you feel, bring a snack to share if you're inclined, and definitely bring your dancing shoes, you're going to need them before the year is over.

Hello dancers!  HUGE thank you to everyone that came and joined us to dance for the Festival of Trees last Saturday.  It was a great time, they loved having us, and it's because of all of you.

 

Looking ahead, this Sunday is huge, because it is our CHRISTMAS PARTY!!!!!!  Here's a quick peek at the schedule for this Sunday only:

 

6:30 - 7:00 East Coast lesson upstairs, West Coast lesson downstairs

7:00 - 10:00 Live music by Pivot Point!!

 

That's right, 3 hours of live music and it starts at 7 PM.  Plus, for WSDS members admission is FREE!!!!!  Merry Christmas from the society you've helped make great.  Everyone else can join the fun for only $10.

 

Remember to dress up and be festive, as well as bring a snack to help spread some holiday cheer.

We have been asked by Goodwill Industries to add to their entertainment by dancing as part of the WSDS. Come join the fun for a good cause! Please wear Christmas colors.
• Performer entrance will be on the North side of Century II, east doors on Kennedy Plaza. There will be Festival Of Trees signage on the doors.
• Performers will be admitted free to the Festival Of Trees.
General admission is $5.00. Proceeds benefit Goodwill Industries of Kansas.

 

Our shift is from 2:30 to 3:30, see you there!

Hello dancers!  It's December and while the weather gets colder the dancing is heating up.  I want to take a second to address all of you non-members out there.

 

A one year membership costs $15 for students, military, and people over 55.  For everyone else it costs $25.  If you joined this Sunday, you wouldn't pay to get in, and save $6.  The next week is our Christmas party, and being a member saves you $10.  The two weeks left in December let you save $2 each. 

 

Add all that up and it means joining as a new member in December saves you $20!  That's almost an entire year paying for itself in one month!  I'm not saying you'd be foolish not to join but........

 

THIS WEEK

Saturday we have a bonus chance to dance as part of the Festival of Trees at Century II.  We'll be providing entertainment from 2:30 - 3:30 PM and we need your help!  Anyone who wants to dance is welcome, the more the merrier!  Contact Missy with questions at vicepresident@wichitaswingdance.com

Sunday is Dance Card Sunday!  Plus it's the start of a new taster class!  Our studio host and swing dance hall of fame member Harry Reese is teaching West Coast Swing!  Check out the lessons schedule:

Hello dancers!  We had a great time last week at the Sock Hop.  If you missed out don't worry, our Christmas Party is coming up soon!

 

A few things while I have your attention:

1) Members please remember to bring your card with you each week.  We'll be checking the accuracy of our contact information with you in the coming weeks.  If you haven't received your card yet, we probably have it at the front table, come and get it!

 

2) If you aren't a member, now's a very, very good time to consider it, and I'd like to tell you why.  When you join as a member, you don't pay to get in that night.  Every subsequent night you save $2 on admission.  And as an extra bonus, you get in free to our Christmas Party!  (Non-members pay $10)  That means if you join this week and come every Sunday until the Christmas Party (December 12th!) then you would be saving $19!

 

If you're a student, in the military or at least 55 years of age your membership only costs $15!  That means it can pay for itself before it's even 2011, and it lasts a year from the date you sign up!  For everyone else, that same membership is only $25, so now is still a great time to let your membership save you 92% of its cost before 2011!

Hey gang, if you're interested in getting some extra special holiday dancing in, Harry and Amy are hosting a dance at the studio on Thanksgiving Day.  They'll have food at 6:30, followed by swing, salsa, and a little bit of other dancing at 8 PM.  It's free to all comers, so spread the word and have a wonderful holiday.

Saturday at Abode the White Ghost Shivers are playing!  They're high energy and well worth the time to get out and dance.

 

Sunday is our SOCKHOP!!!!  Ronnie Choy will be our DJ for the evening, and that means you'll want to lace up those dancing shoes extra tight.  Be sure to help make it a great party by dressing up 50's style, as well as bringing your favorite snack to share with your favorite dancers!

 

BIG EVENTS

November 20th we're having a special dance at Old Town Ballroom from 8-11 PM.  We'll have some special out of town guests including internationally known Nick Williams and Nina Gilkensen.  Come dance the night away with us!

 

December 12th is our Christmas Party!  We'll have live music courtesy of Pivot Point from 7-10 PM for your dancing enjoyment.  We'll even throw in some prizes if all of you will contribute some food to share.  Members get in FREE as our Christmas present to you!  Everyone else can join the fun for just $10.

Hey dancers, quick reminder for you, we're dancing tonight, and there are several reasons you should come out:

 

1) It's DANCE CARD SUNDAY!  That means prizes for doing what you all love to do:  dance!

 

2) We have some extra East Coast Swing for you!  We've adjusted our lesson format, so that now you have 2 east coast classes upstairs every week!  A beginner class at 6:30, and an intermediate/advanced class at about 7:15

 

3) The int/adv East Coast Swing class will be progressive throughout the month!  That means no repeats in november, and the material will get more challenging as the month goes along!

 

4) We have a special Lindy Hop class in the basement from 7-8 PM!  It'll be progressive throughout the month as well, so don't miss out on the chance to get started!

Hello dancers!  It's the start of a new month so we have a lot to direct your attention to!  Starting with a format change to your Swingin' Sundays!  Here's what an average Sunday Night will look like:

7:00 - 8:00 Rotating Taster Class (basement)

8:00 - 10:00 Dance!!

 

So take the opportunity to come out and get your dancing in, because the major eating holidays are around the corner and dancing beats jogging!

December 12th is our Christmas Party!  And as our gift to all of you, WSDS Members are FREE!!!  We'll have Pivot Point playing live from 7 till 10 PM for your dancing enjoyment.  We'll provide some prizes for the evening, you provide some food:  bring a snack to share!  Non-members can join the party for $10.

 

December 31st we'll swing in the New Year!  Yes indeed, the swingingest party in town is back again, and this year it's right at home at the Harry Reese Dance Studio.  Food, dancing and fun are to be expected, be on the lookout for more details.

Hello dancers!  This is a big week with several great chances for you to get out and dance!

 

SATURDAY - Is a wedding reception for Angela and Tom, and we've all been invited!  Crown Uptown Theater, 7 PM, free, with the musical stylings of Cool Blue to dance to!  They're going for a vintage feel, so please dress the part and help them celebrate in swinging style!

 

SUNDAY - It's one of my favorite evenings of the year.....SOUL NIGHT!!!!!  If you haven't experienced the phenomenon be sure to make it out!

 

TUESDAY - Lindy Hop Tuesdays at OTB are throwing a dance!  Running from 8:30 - 11:00 PM you can get in for just $6, or get the class that night and the dance for only $9!

October 31st isn't just Halloween....it's our Halloween party!  We'll have a costume contests and discounts for everyone in costume, plus you can count on a special performance of the Thriller dance!

THIS WEEK

Saturday is a dance workshop!  The Lindy Bombers are giving you another chance to get your learning on for a low price!  It's at Harry's, and runs from 10 AM to 1 PM, here's the lineup:

 

10 AM - Shim Sham - Here's a chance to learn a line dance we do every week!  So come check it out and join in the fun, all levels welcome!

 

11 AM - Moves Guaranteed to Move You - Some entirely new moves to add to your dancing and challenge you!  Comfort with a swingout encouraged.

 

Noon - Follower FUNdamentals - A class aimed at the ladies but with plenty of solid information for the leads as well.  A definite must attend for any ladies wishing to improve their dancing.  All levels welcome.

 

Classes are only $6 each or an amazingly low $15 for all 3!  This is a fundraiser for the Lindy Bombers, so please support dance in your community!

Saturday Night is The Sizzling Summer Soiree at Old Town Ballroom.  Dancing, lessons, and refreshments from 8-11 PM are yours for $10.

Hello dancers!  We have some serious fun on the horizon so read closely....  First off I want to remind you we are electing new board members on September 12th.  We need some new people to step up and lead this group for the next year.  Attached is a packet with information, please look it over.  Also that night we'll  have a membership meeting.  So all you members, the fun starts at 6:30 PM in the basement.  Come pick your leadership and hear about how we've been doing!

Hello dancers!  First and foremost, I want to direct your attention to September 12th.  That night is our election of new board members for the coming year.  Attached in this email is the nomination packet, please look at it if you are interested in giving back to this group.  Without the board there is not a single WSDS event that would happen.  I cannot tell you how important it is, and we have holes to fill this year.  If you are not interested in running, but are a member, then please come that night to vote in our elections!  In the basement from 6:30 - 8:00 PM we will hold the elections and our membership meeting.

Wichita Swing Dance Society

Hello dancers, this week it is all about one thing:  SUNFLOWER SWING!  It's finally here, and I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

 

The fun starts tomorrow night at Old Town Ballroom (630 E. Douglas) from 7-10 PM.  We'll have DJ Joy Kotewall from KC and DJ David Frutos from California playing the tunes, the dancing is up to you!  Cost is only $5, come out and help kick the weekend off in style!

 

Saturday we give you a fun-filled day of classes with Kim Clever and David Frutos from California as well as Nate Woodhams and Christy Palmer from Omaha.  It's at the studio (Harry's) from 10-3, we'll have a beginner and an advanced track so there's something for everybody.  Classes include beginning lindy hop, slides, aerials, movie moves, and more!  Classes are $10 each.

 

Saturday night we head to the Dance Studio (1855 S. Rock) from 8-Midnight for an evening of dance contests, DJ Troy Nothnagel from Omaha, and LIVE MUSIC!  Pivot Point makes their debut for you so come welcome them to the Wichita Swing Dance Society!  The entire dance is only $10.

 

If that's not enough, we'll head back to Old Town Ballroom (630 E. Douglas) afterwards for an after hours dance from Midnight until however late you can party.  Why not see how late you can go?  For $5 it's an exciting evening sure to include swing, soul, blues and more with DJ Hilary Wright from KC

 

Sunday are more classes at the Dance Studio (1855 S. Rock) from 10-3, and we're all together this time.  Easy tricks for everyone, balboa, and collegiate shag highlight a fun day of classes, again $10 each.

 

Sunday night we have a very special Swingin' Sunday planned.  Brief East Coast lesson from 6:30-7, then the Swingdaddies take over with a whirlwind of high energy swing fun from 7-10 PM!  The entire evening is $10, don't miss out!

 

Of course you can save money by getting a weekend pass that admits you to every dance and every class ($110 value) for only $70 for members and $85 for non-members.  If not, then come to as much as you can squeeze in, it's a party the likes of which you won't see again for a year.

Hello dancers!  This Sunday is your last chance to register for Sunflower Swing at our awesome discount rate of $50!  Wondering what that gets you?  Here's you answer:

 

Friday Night (July 16) We're heading over to Old Town Ballroom for a welcome dance!  We'll get down from 7-10 PM to the sounds of DJ's from Kansas City and California.

 

Saturday (July 17) the learning begins at Harry's, with classes taught by our guest instructors:  Kim Clever, David Frutos, Christy Palmer, and Nate Woodhams.  There'll be classes for all levels, including classes covering slides, aerials, moves featured in the movies, charleston and more!  Classes run from 10 AM to 3:15 PM

July 31st is the OTB Picnic/Potluck Dance at Old Town Ballroom.  From 8-11 you can enjoy the food and fun for only $10

 

August 22nd is a very special Swingin' Sunday.  It marks the return of the Dance Man Ronnie Choy!  Don't miss out on hearing our favorite DJ do what he does best.

Finally, the 4th of July is a Sunday but WE WILL NOT BE DANCING THAT NIGHT.  We hope you enjoy celebrating the birth of our nation!

 

THIS WEEK

Sunday we have two great reasons for you to attend:

1) It's our June Birthday Jam! 

2) We're extending our Sunflower Swing special!  Be one of the first 5 to register for Sunflower Swing this Sunday and do so for only $50!!  Eight classes, 3 nights of dancing, and 2 live bands are all yours!

July we only have 2 nights of normal classes, so we're giving you a chance to catch up on the line dances we love so much.  The 11th we'll cover Shim Sham, the 25th we'll cover Line Charleston.

Wichita Swing Dance Society

Hello dancers!  Thanks to everyone who came out and let helped make Soul Night a party last week!  As long as you support them, we'll be sure to keep having them.

 

Also thank you to everybody who came out to the final Swing Night at the Shadow this past Tuesday.  I appreciate you helping show the Shadow our gratitude for a great run.  We are working on getting another location for some free mid-week dancing, keep your ears open!
